MUSIC THERAPY FOR ELDERLY or DEMENTIA

Elderly people can feel socially isolated when they are recovering from illness and/or are away from neighbors, family and friends. People who suffers from dementia can feel isolated and disconnected from the world. They feel disorientated and may suffers from memory lost, difficulty in concentrating, confusion, speech deterioration, agitation, etc.

Music therapy can help to:

  • promote social interaction

  • encourage a sense of self through improvised music

  • give an older person the opportunity to reminisce/recall memory through the use of song and talking

  • aid relaxation

  • encourage the expression of intense feelings such as anger, frustration, sadness

  • enhance exploratory and creative abilities

  • provide reassurance and containment through music.

Therapy can be delivered at client's home.
